Base Hospital Gampola is one of the main Health care intuition in Central province, Sri Lanka. It provides specialized health care services mainly to the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Kegalle Districts. The Gampola Hospital was Established in the year 1925 and was upgraded to the level of Base Hospital in 1994. In the year 2002 it was upgraded to Teaching Hospital and the management was taken over by the Central government.
The Hospital is responsible for rendering advance medical, surgical & rehabilitative services to the population concern.
It comprises Wards with a bed strength of 401, Operation Theaters, Intensive Care Unit, Special Baby Care Unit, Dental Unit, ETU (Emergency Treatment unit), OPD (Out Patient Department), Dialysis unit, Lactation Management Unit, Infection Control Unit, Planning and Quality Management Unit, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Diabetic Education Unit, Mithuru Piyasa, Mental Health Unit, Health Education Unit, Medical Nutrition Unit, Medico Legal Unit, Medical Record Unit, Pharmacy and other specialized clinic services. We have facilities to carry out medical investigations such as X-Ray, Ultra Sound Scan, ECG, Endoscopy, and Laboratory services.
The staff in duty comprise of around 750 members including 17 Medical Consultants provide quality, safety and patient centered health care services for the population.
The hospital also provides teaching and training to Medical students and Allied health sciences students of University of Peradeniya.
